(Goji Berry)

Linoflax Intestinal & Colon Cleanser The Goji berry (Lycium barbarum) has been recognized as "one of the nutritionally dense foods in the world" because, by weight, these little berries contain 500 times more vitamin C than oranges, have more beta carotene than carrots, more iron than spinach. They also contain, zeaxanthin, calcium, magnesium, selenium, zinc, germanium, vitamins B 1, B 2, B 6 and E. Gojiis also a powerful antioxidant.Goji Berry also contains 19 amino acids including the nine essential amino acids (histidine, isoeucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine).

One of the most important qualities of Goji may be the content of polysaccharides.Recent research indicates that polysaccharides can have many benefits in the body, including inflammation and immune system regulation. Some studies in animals have shown that these polysaccharides may protect the liver and kidneys against oxidative stress related to age.Another animal study has indicated that these same polysaccharides may be beneficial for improving insulin resistance caused by diabetes.More interesting is a study in 2006 suggesting that the polysaccharides improved the antioxidant activity of substances that occur naturally in goji and may peroteger against the damage to DNA due to oxidative stress.
Goji berries grow on an evergreen shrub found in temperate and subtropical regions in China, Mongolia and the Himalayas in Tibet. They are in the nightshade family Solonaceae.
Why do people use goji berries?
Goji berries have been used for 6,000 years by herbalists in China, Tibet and India and provide the following benefits:
  • Protect the liver
  • Help view
  • Improve sexual function and fertility
  • Strengthen legs
  • Boost immune function
  • Improve circulation
  • Promote longevity
Goji berries are rich in antioxidants, especially carotenoids such as beta-carotene and zeaxanthin. One of the key functions of zeaxanthin is to protect the retina of the eye by absorbing blue light and acting as an antioxidant. In fact, increased intake of foods containing zeathanthin may decrease the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), the leading cause of vision loss and blindness in people over 65.
In recent years, goji juice has become popular as a health drink.Companies marketing goji juice often mention the unsupported claim that a man named Li Qing Yuen consumed goji berries daily and lived to be 252 years old.Marketers also list extensive health benefits of goji juice, even though there are few published clinical trials in humans.
What research has been done on goji berries?
Goji has only been tested in humans in two published studies.A Chinese study published in the China Daily of Oncology in 1994 found that 79 people with cancer respond better to treatment when goji was added to his regime.
There have been several laboratory studies show that goji berry contains antioxidants and that goji extracts may prevent the growth of cancer cells, reduce blood glucose and cholesterol levels low. However, that does not necessarily mean that goji have the same benefits when taken as a juice or tea.
